Establishes definitions for airbags, automobile supplemental restraint systems, counterfeit components, nonfunctional airbags, and salvaged airbags under Mississippi Code Section 63-7-62.

Prohibits manufacturing, importing, distributing, selling, or installing counterfeit automobile supplemental restraint system components, nonfunctional airbags, or non-compliant replacement objects that do not meet federal safety standards for the specific vehicle make, model, and year.

Prohibits installing objects or components that cause a vehicle's diagnostic system to fail to warn operators that an airbag is not installed or that a counterfeit or nonfunctional airbag is installed.

Creates criminal penalties of up to $5,000 in fines, up to one year imprisonment, or both for knowing violations of airbag installation standards.

Provides liability protection for franchised motor vehicle dealers who did not know and should not have reasonably known about counterfeit or nonfunctional airbags at their place of business.

Effective date: July 1, 2024.
