MS HB1161

Allows any municipality located in a county that has voted against lifting the dry law to hold a local election to permit or prohibit the sale of alcoholic beverages.

Removes previous population requirements that limited which municipalities could hold such elections.

Requires a petition signed by at least 20% of qualified voters to trigger an election, with 30 days' notice to voters before the election is held.

Limits municipalities to holding elections on this question no more than once every two years.

Takes effect July 1, 2024.
