MS HB1275

Directs the Mississippi Department of Archives and History to remove depictions of the Confederate flag from the State Capitol rotunda as soon as practicable after the bill's effective date.

Amends Section 55-15-81 to require legislative authorization before relocating, removing, disturbing, altering, renaming or rededicating historical military statues, monuments, memorials, and named public structures.

Preserves the ability of public bodies to protect, repair, and restore historical items without restriction, and allows relocation to more suitable locations.

Exempts items and structures on Mississippi Transportation Commission property that may interfere with construction, maintenance, or operation of public transportation facilities.

Takes effect July 1, 2024.
