Schools and school athletic programs must develop and implement a Cardiac Emergency Response Plan (CERP) beginning in the 2024-2025 school year that addresses sudden cardiac arrest response procedures following American Heart Association guidelines or other nationally recognized standards.

CERP must include establishing a cardiac emergency response team, AED placement and maintenance plans, staff CPR/AED training, annual drills, integration with local EMS, and ongoing plan review and evaluation.

Schools may accept gifts, grants, and donations for purchasing FDA-approved AEDs and covering inspection, maintenance, and staff training costs.

Schools and school staff are exempt from the requirement that a Mississippi licensed physician must exercise medical control authority over AED use, and school district employees acting in good faith are immune from civil liability.

Amends Section 41-60-33 of Mississippi Code to exempt public and charter schools from physician supervision requirements while maintaining other AED use standards for non-school settings.
