House Bill 286 Summary

• Amends Mississippi Code Section 99-1-5 to remove the statute of limitations for sexual battery charges under Section 97-3-95(1)(a) or (b) when the suspect's identity was unknown at the time of the crime but is later discovered through DNA testing of biological evidence

• Maintains existing no statute of limitations for other serious crimes including murder, manslaughter, rape, kidnapping, arson, burglary, and various child exploitation offenses

• Effective date is July 1, 2024
