Adds athletic umpires to the list of persons whose assault is elevated to aggravated assault under Mississippi Code Section 97-3-7(14)

Simple assault on an umpire at an athletic event is punishable by a fine up to $1,000 or imprisonment up to 5 years, or both

Aggravated assault on an umpire is punishable by a fine up to $5,000 or imprisonment up to 30 years, or both

Applies when the umpire is assaulted while serving in that capacity at an athletic event

Takes effect July 1, 2024
