MS HB41

Amends Mississippi Code to authorize licensed podiatrists to perform surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and related structures upon meeting specific qualifications.

Requires podiatrists to complete a minimum three-year post-graduate residency accredited by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education (CPME) and obtain certification from the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery (ABFAS) in Reconstructive Rearfoot and Ankle Surgery (RRA).

Restricts ankle surgery to accredited hospitals where the podiatrist has received surgical privileges from the medical staff, defined as acute care hospitals actively licensed in Mississippi with surgical services.

Limits surgical procedures to those listed by CPME 320 and successors as required for graduation and certification in rearfoot and ankle surgery.

Effective July 1, 2024.
