Removes the requirement that state employees must use one day of accrued personal or compensatory leave before using major medical leave for illness or injury.

Eliminates the requirement for faculty at public universities on nine-month contracts to use personal leave before major medical leave, aligning them with the new standard.

Maintains the existing requirement that major medical leave must be certified by a physician after 32 consecutive working hours of absence due to illness.

Preserves the ability to use major medical leave for regularly scheduled doctor visits for chronic disease treatment without prior use of personal leave.

Effective date: July 1, 2024.
