MS HB54

Amends Mississippi Code Section 99-19-71 to remove embezzlement (as defined in Sections 97-11-25 and 97-23-19) from the list of felonies that cannot be expunged from criminal records.

Allows persons convicted of embezzlement to petition for expungement five (5) years after successful completion of all sentence terms and conditions, provided all fines and costs are paid.

Retains restrictions on expungement for nine other felony categories including crimes of violence, arson, drug trafficking, sex offender registration violations, and abuse of vulnerable persons.

Takes effect July 1, 2024.
