Allows retired members of the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) to be employed as teachers in school districts within geographical areas designated by the State Department of Education as having critical teacher shortages.

Permits qualifying retired teachers to work full-time (full number of normal working days) and receive full salary for the position while simultaneously drawing their full retirement allowance for up to three years.

Requires employers to pay the full employer contribution to PERS on compensation received by retirees employed under this exception, though retirees do not earn additional creditable service.

Maintains existing restrictions that retirees must wait at least 90 days after retirement before being employed and cannot become members of the retirement system while reemployed.

Takes effect July 1, 2024.
