House Bill 682 Summary

• Allows vehicle owners who trade in a vehicle to a dealer to retain and reuse the license plate from the traded vehicle on their newly purchased vehicle if the plate series matches, is authorized for that vehicle type, and both vehicles are registered in the same county.

• Permits individuals selling or transferring a vehicle to retain the license plate and use it on another vehicle being registered for the first time by that person, subject to the same conditions regarding plate series, vehicle type authorization, and county registration.

• Modifies Section 27-19-63 and Section 27-19-141 of Mississippi Code to establish the conditions and procedures for license plate retention and reuse between vehicles.

• Effective date is July 1, 2024.
