HB 941 Summary

• Requires officers executing warrants at residences to give notice of identity, authority, and purpose before entering, and to read and provide a copy of the warrant to the person being searched or arrested

• Prohibits no-knock warrants except when issued by county court, county judge in vacation, chancery court, chancellor in vacation, circuit court, circuit judge in vacation, or Mississippi Supreme Court justice

• Removes expired no-knock warrant provisions from Section 41-29-157 and amends numerous statutes to require all warrant executions and arrests to comply with the notice requirements in Section 1

• Applies notice and warrant-reading requirements to all law enforcement agencies and officers throughout the state when executing warrants for any offense

• Effective July 1, 2024
