George County High School Lady Rebels won their first-ever Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 5A Fast-Pitch Softball State Championship on May 18, 2023, defeating Saltillo High School 2-1 in Game 2 at the Southern Miss Softball Complex in Hattiesburg.

The championship game was decided in the bottom of the sixth inning when Sidnee Beech drove in the go-ahead run with an RBI single, with Peyton Collins earning series MVP honors as pitcher.

The resolution commends Head Coach Kasey McCann and Assistant Coaches Anna Grace Cooley, Bruce Thornton, and Jay Smith for their coaching and inspiration of the team.

The Lady Rebels roster included 27 athletes plus team manager Carys Cochran, recognized for their winning spirit, sportsmanship, and dedication both on the field and in the classroom.

Copies of the resolution shall be furnished to Head Coach Kasey McCann and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
