Commends and congratulates Mr. William Jarrell, a World War II Navy veteran from Escatawpa, Mississippi, upon celebrating his 100th birthday.

Recognizes Jarrell's military service, including his enlistment in the U.S. Navy at age 18 in 1942 and assignment as a firefighter on the USS Independence, a light aircraft carrier in the Pacific.

Honors Jarrell's courageous actions during a November 20, 1943 torpedo strike on the USS Independence that killed 17 shipmates but credits him with helping save many lives.

Acknowledges Jarrell's five and a half years of military service and his contributions to post-war life, including raising eight children with his late wife Rosie Mae and maintaining active hobbies including gardening, canning, and building yard furniture.

Directs distribution of the resolution to Mr. William Jarrell and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
