SB2134 Summary

• Prohibits governmental entities from restricting or prohibiting use of appliances based on the type of utility service (electrical, natural gas, or liquefied petroleum gas) required for operation.

• Preserves governmental authority to require utilities from authorized providers, prohibit illegal appliance use, enforce building and safety codes, and ensure safe appliance operation per manufacturer standards.

• Clarifies that building permit or subdivision regulation denials cannot be based solely on the type of appliance or utility service proposed.

• Amends Section 77-3-3 of the Mississippi Code to add clarifying language to the definitions section.

• Takes effect July 1, 2024.
