Senate Bill 2401 Summary

• Allows retired public school teachers with 30+ years of creditable service to return to teaching and receive both their retirement allowance and teacher salary after waiting 12 consecutive months following retirement.

• Limits reemployment under this provision to a maximum of 5 years.

• Reemployed teachers are not contributing members of the retirement system and do not earn additional creditable service.

• Requires employers to pay both the employer and employee contribution portions to the retirement system for reemployed teachers, equivalent to the contribution rate specified in Section 25-11-123.

• Takes effect July 1, 2024.
