Brings forward Mississippi Code Section 25-31-10 authorizing district attorneys to appoint one full-time criminal investigator, with additional investigators permitted in certain districts up to a maximum of 4 in the Seventh Circuit Court District.

Sets maximum salary for criminal investigators at $63,000 per annum, with discretion for district attorney to determine based on qualifications and experience, with supplemental pay for law degree holders not exceeding legal assistant maximum salary.

Permits district attorneys to employ additional legal assistants or criminal investigators beyond authorized limits if funded through non-state sources including county funds, federal grants, private donations, or interlocal agreements.

Effective July 1, 2024.
