Senate Bill 2746 Summary

• Increases circuit judges in the Seventh Circuit Court District from four (4) to eight (8) judges, with two (2) judges elected from each subdistrict.

• Increases full-time legal assistants authorized in the Seventh Circuit Court District from twelve (12) to twenty-five (25).

• Requires candidates for the new circuit judgeships to file intent by 5:00 p.m. on June 1, 2024, and run in a special election during the general election of November 2024 using the Nonpartisan Judicial Election Act.

• Elected judges shall serve two-year terms beginning January 1, 2025, with subsequent terms following standard chancellor and circuit judge provisions.

• Takes effect July 1, 2024.
