Hospitals must retain complete medical records in original, microfilmed, or similarly reproduced form for a minimum of 10 years from patient discharge.

Graphic matter, images, X-ray films, and similar diagnostic materials must be retained by hospitals for a minimum of 3 years from patient discharge, or longer if requested in writing.

Dentists and physicians must adopt rules and regulations requiring retention of patient records for a minimum of 10 years from last treatment date, with graphic materials retained for 3 years or longer if requested.

Parents or guardians of unemancipated minors under 18 may obtain hospital, dental, and medical records in original or reproduced form without the minor's permission.

The act takes effect upon passage.
