State Department of Health shall establish and manage a community health worker certification program by January 1, 2025, and serve as the sole certifying body for the profession in Mississippi.

Division of Medicaid shall seek approval from Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for state plan amendment, waiver, or alternative payment model to reimburse certified community health workers for preventive services, health promotion, care coordination, and patient education when employed by Medicaid providers.

From January 1, 2025, no person may represent themselves as a community health worker unless certified by the State Department of Health in accordance with department requirements.

Department shall promulgate rules establishing core competencies, certification application and renewal processes, fees, procedures for denial/suspension/revocation, scope of practice, and shall approve training programs and continuing education providers.

Amends Section 43-13-117 to add Medicaid reimbursement for services provided by certified community health workers as a covered service category, contingent on federal approval.
