Starkville received the top ranking after a four-week voting process, selected from a field of 19 other small Southern towns

Nominations were made by a panel of travel experts including editors from USA Today, 10Best.com, and other Gannett properties

Acknowledges the city's connection to Mississippi State University, which has been part of the community since 1878

Directs the resolution to be presented to Mayor Lynn Spruill, the Board of Aldermen, the Starkville Convention and Visitors Bureau, and Mississippi State University President Dr. Mark Keenum
