Canton High School "Tigers" boys basketball team won the MHSAA Class 5A State Championship on March 2, 2024, defeating Yazoo City 58-40, claiming their first boys title since 1997.

The team finished the season with a 26-4 record and were led by head coach B.J. Townsend and star player Jamarion Fleming, who scored 25 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in the championship game.

Jamarion Fleming was named 2024 Class 5A MHSAA Mr. Basketball and a Clarion-Ledger Dandy Dozen selection.

The resolution recognizes the 13-player roster, head coach B.J. Townsend, five assistant coaches, and two managers for bringing honor to their school and community.

The resolution directs that copies be presented to Head Coach B.J. Townsend and Principal Pamela Self, forwarded to the Canton School Board, and provided to the Capitol Press Corps.
