HB 1132 Summary

• Increases minimum littering fine from $50 to $100 and maximum fine from $250 to $500 under Section 97-15-29

• Increases the assessment imposed on each littering violation from $50 to $100, with proceeds going to the Law Enforcement Officers Monument Fund and eventually to scholarships for children of deceased or disabled law enforcement officers and firefighters

• Brings forward Section 97-15-30 regarding penalties for unauthorized dumping of solid waste, including misdemeanor and felony violations based on volume and commercial nature of the dumping

• Requires convicted violators to remove discarded waste, repair property damage, perform community service, and pay investigative and prosecutorial costs

• Takes effect July 1, 2025
