HB 1258 Summary

• Updates vessel numbering requirements to include validation decals displayed within 6 inches of the awarded number on each side of vessels.

• Expands vessel registration application and certificate requirements to include zip codes, engine types (inboard, outboard, pod drive, sterndrive), and application type (new, renewal, transfer).

• Allows operators to carry digital certificates of number in addition to physical certificates when operating vessels.

• Adds detailed requirements for temporary certificates of number valid for 60 days, including specific information that must be displayed (owner name/address, vessel type, propulsion type, length, make, and date of issuance).

• Effective date: July 1, 2025.
