Brings forward Section 45-2-1 of Mississippi Code establishing the Law Enforcement Officers and Fire Fighters Death Benefits Trust Fund to provide $100,000 death benefits to covered law enforcement officers and firefighters who die from covered causes while performing official duties.

Trust fund receives initial appropriation of $200,000 and is funded by State Treasurer investments and any legislative appropriations or donations; unexpended amounts do not lapse to the General Fund.

Department of Public Safety manages the trust fund and disburses benefits to designated beneficiaries, or if none designated, to surviving spouse and children in equal portions, then parents, then estate.

Brings forward Section 27-19-31 of Mississippi Code authorizing vehicle license tags issued for five-year periods with annual decals; beginning January 1, 2024, owners of private carriers of passengers or motorcycles may choose special black background tags with white pinstripe border for an additional fee of $38.25, with $36.25 deposited to the death benefits trust fund.

Bill effective July 1, 2025.
