House Bill 1397 Summary

• Amends Section 47-7-37.1 of the Mississippi Code to allow revocation of probation, post-release supervision, or suspension of sentence if a new felony crime is committed before the sentence term has commenced
• Expands existing revocation grounds beyond crimes committed during active supervision to include felonies committed during the period before supervision begins
• Maintains the existing standard that courts must find by a preponderance of the evidence that a probationer committed the felony or absconded from supervision
• Takes effect July 1, 2025
