MS HB1442

Requires medical professionals employed by Mississippi state hospitals (Mississippi State Hospital, North Mississippi State Hospital, East Mississippi State Hospital, or contracted medical facilities) to conduct personal examinations and sign certificates for conservatorship proceedings if the respondent is housed in a state hospital and has been committed by a chancery court for mental health evaluations at least three times in the past 24 months.

Allows the required medical professionals to conduct examinations either in-person or via telemedicine, following the same guidelines as other licensed physicians, psychologists, nurse practitioners, or physician's assistants.

Permits treating physicians to be present in person or by technology during closed conservatorship hearings requested by the respondent.

Grants access to medical records from state hospitals and contracted medical facilities to individuals subject to conservatorship proceedings, their attorneys, and persons entitled to notice in the case.

Effective July 1, 2025.
