HB 1485 Summary

• Creates the "CASA Capacity Growth Program" within the Administrative Office of Courts to provide financial support to Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) programs serving abused and neglected children in Mississippi.

• Establishes eligibility requirement that CASA programs must be members in good standing with the National CASA/GAL Association to receive funds.

• Requires the Administrative Office of Courts to distribute funds using a formula based on the number of children in custody in the program area, number of children served, and number of active volunteers.

• Authorizes the Administrative Office of Courts to enter into agreements with CASA Mississippi or other qualified entities to manage fund distribution and provide administrative support, including reasonable administrative cost coverage.

• Takes effect July 1, 2025.
