HB 1608 Summary

• Amends Mississippi Code Section 41-29-113 to add 16 new synthetic opioids and designer drugs to Schedule I controlled substances, including fentanyl analogs (alpha'-methyl butyryl fentanyl, 2',5'-dimethoxyfentanyl, etodesnitazene, isovaleryl fentanyl, meta-fluorofentanyl, meta-fluoroisobutyryl fentanyl, para-methoxyfuranyl fentanyl, and others) and other synthetic drugs (2-methyl AP-237, N-pyrrolidino etonitazene, protonitazene, ADB-BUTINACA, a-PiHP, and 3-MMC).

• Designates these substances as having no legitimate medical use and high potency with great potential to cause harm, warranting Schedule I classification alongside existing controlled substances like heroin, fentanyl, and LSD.

• Effective date is July 1, 2025.
