HB 256 Summary

• Amends Mississippi Code Section 31-7-13 to increase the procurement threshold for public schools, school districts, and charter schools from $5,000 to $10,000 for purchases not requiring competitive bids.

• Allows public schools, school districts, and charter schools to make purchases up to $10,000 without advertising or requesting competitive bids, though individual school boards may still establish procedures requiring competitive bids for purchases of $10,000 or less.

• Does not change the $5,000 threshold for other agencies and governing authorities, which maintain the existing competitive bidding requirements.

• Effective July 1, 2025.
