House Bill 654 - Marijuana Penalty Reductions

• Reduces maximum imprisonment for possession of 30 grams or less of marijuana from 3 years to 18 months, and reduces maximum fine from $3,000 to $1,500.

• Reduces maximum imprisonment for possession of more than 30 grams but less than 250 grams from 5 years to 2 years, and reduces maximum fine from $5,000 to $2,500.

• Reduces maximum imprisonment for possession of 250-500 grams from 10 years to 5 years, and reduces maximum fine from $15,000 to $7,500.

• Reduces maximum imprisonment for possession of 500 grams to 1 kilogram from 20 years to 10 years, and reduces maximum fine from $20,000 to $10,000.

• Reduces fines and jail time for first and subsequent convictions for possession of 30 grams or less, and shortens the period that conviction records are maintained from 2 years to 1 year.
