Commends and congratulates the Lafayette High School "Commodores" Girls Soccer Team and Head Coach Melinda Scruggs for winning the 2025 MHSAA Class 5A State Championship, the program's fifth state title.

Team defeated Florence High School 3-2 on February 17, 2025, at Germantown High School after regulation and three overtime periods, ultimately prevailing in a penalty shootout.

Senior goalkeeper Andrea Rhea earned game MVP honors by making three crucial penalty shootout saves, including the final stop that secured the victory.

Freshman Rivers Rikard scored two goals in the second half to give Lafayette a 2-1 lead after trailing 1-0 at halftime, with Caroline Perkins and Lizah Holland also converting critical penalty kicks.

Team completed the season with an 18-7 overall record and was supported by assistant coaches Lance McGregor, Sydney Stephen, Katelin Johnson, Caitlyn Rhea, and Ashely Jones, as well as Manager Wendy Lopez.
