MS SB2039

Authorizes employees of the Secretary of State who are authorized by the Secretary of State to perform investigative or regulatory enforcement functions to carry firearms while engaged in their duties.

Requires such employees to complete a weapons training course approved by the Board of Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Training before being authorized to carry weapons.

Adds Secretary of State investigative/regulatory employees to the list of non-sworn personnel in Mississippi Code Section 97-37-7(2) who are permitted to carry firearms, alongside wildlife officers, attorneys, judges, coroners, and other authorized officials.

Takes effect July 1, 2025.
