SB 2258 Summary

• Allows all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and recreational off-highway vehicles to operate on county rural, gravel, or paved roads when properly licensed and tagged under Title 27, Chapter 19.

• Requires ATVs and recreational off-highway vehicles operating on roads to comply with motor vehicle licensing, tagging, and regulations, except windshield wiper requirements.

• Prohibits licensed ATVs and recreational off-highway vehicles from towing or operating on interstate highways and roads with speed limits exceeding 40 mph, but permits crossing such roads at approximately 90-degree angles with specific safety conditions.

• Directs the $5.00 additional registration fee for ATVs and recreational off-highway vehicles to the county where the vehicle is registered, rather than the State Highway Fund.

• Implements conforming amendments to vehicle definitions across multiple Mississippi Code sections and takes effect July 1, 2025.
