Senate Bill 2327 Summary

• Amends Section 45-1-19 of Mississippi Code to clarify that the Capitol Police (Department of Public Safety) can enforce violations of any municipal code or ordinance of the City of Jackson, in addition to state laws.

• Grants Capitol Police primary jurisdiction within the Capitol Complex Improvement District to enforce all state laws and municipal ordinances of Jackson that occur within the district boundaries.

• Establishes concurrent jurisdiction between Capitol Police and City of Jackson/Hinds County law enforcement within the Capitol Complex Improvement District, with Capitol Police as the lead agency on state-owned or leased property.

• Requires written approval from the Chief of Capitol Police or Commissioner of Public Safety before any event can occur on streets or sidewalks adjacent to state buildings that could block access to those buildings.

• Effective July 1, 2025.
