Requires immediate notification to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and local law enforcement whenever an inmate or detainee escapes from a correctional facility.

Sheriff must provide notification for escapes from local jails or regional prisons.

Mississippi Department of Corrections must provide notification for escapes from state prison facilities.

"Local law enforcement" includes the sheriff and police chiefs of both the county where the escape occurred and the county where the original crime occurred.

Effective July 1, 2025.
