MS SB2444

Authorizes the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning to establish a scholarship program for veterans who have served in combat zones or have service-connected disabilities rated at 10% or higher.

Eligible veterans receive one month of free tuition for each month of active duty served during a qualifying period, with benefits ranging from a minimum of one academic year to a maximum of four academic years.

Requires veterans to be Mississippi residents, honorably discharged, ineligible for federal educational benefits, and either have served on active duty during wartime with a campaign medal for combat operations or have a service-connected disability rating of 10% or more.

Establishes the Combat Veteran Scholarship Fund in the State Treasury with an annual appropriation cap of $500,000.

Takes effect July 1, 2025.
