MS SB2882

Expands the definition of a competent juror in Mississippi Code Section 13-5-1 to include citizens aged 21 or older who possess a current valid Mississippi driver's license and have filed state income taxes for at least one of the two previous tax years.

Removes the previous requirement that jurors be either qualified electors or resident freeholders of the county for more than one year.

Maintains existing juror qualifications including the ability to read and write, no conviction of infamous crimes or unlawful liquor sales within five years, and not being a common gambler or habitual drunkard.

Amends Section 13-5-8 to require the jury commission master list to include citizens who possess a valid Mississippi driver's license and have filed state income taxes for at least one of the two previous tax years, replacing the voter registration list as the source.

Takes effect July 1, 2025.
