Hospital expanded from 60 beds to 124 beds over five decades and established specialized services including the Center for Neuroscience and Neurological Recovery in 1998 and the Methodist Specialty Care Center in 2004.

Facility was first discussed in 1955 and admitted its first patient on May 5, 1975, filling Mississippi's critical need for rehabilitative care to prevent patients from seeking treatment out of state.
