Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) members convicted of or pleading guilty/nolo contendere to job-related felonies committed on or after July 1, 2026, will be terminated from the retirement system

Terminated members receive a refund of their accumulated contributions without interest within 90 days of the system receiving notice of the conviction or plea

Members charged with job-related felonies who retire after being charged continue receiving retirement benefits until conviction or plea, at which point the retirement allowance terminates

If a terminated member received less in retirement allowance than their accumulated contributions, they receive a refund of the difference

Terminated members who otherwise would have qualified for retirement remain eligible to participate in the State and School Employees Life and Health Insurance Plan under the same conditions as retired employees
