Grants local school boards discretionary authority to provide bus transportation to students living within one mile of their assigned school when walking conditions pose significant safety risks

Specifies qualifying dangers including lack of sidewalks along heavily trafficked roads, highway or interstate crossings, areas with documented crime/violence/human trafficking patterns, railroad crossings, and industrial zones

Allows temporary or emergency transportation for students who don't normally qualify when an imminent or newly identified safety threat is documented

Maintains that no state funds will be paid for transporting students living within one mile of school; such students will not be included in transportation reports

Takes effect July 1, 2026
