Eliminates the requirement that Mississippi state employees must use one day of accrued personal or compensatory leave (or take leave without pay) before accessing major medical leave for illness

Allows state employees to use major medical leave immediately for their own illness or injury, or for illness or injury of an immediate family member

Removes the mandate that personal leave must be used for illnesses requiring absences of one day or less

Maintains existing major medical leave accrual rates, which range from 8 hours per month (for 1 month to 3 years of service) down to 5 hours per month (for over 15 years of service)

Takes effect July 1, 2026
