Raises the minimum age requiring mandatory Coast Guard approved personal flotation device (life jacket) wear from 12 to 18 years old for passengers on motorboats, sailboats, or vessels under 26 feet in length while underway

Increases the maximum fine for violations of certain Mississippi Boating Law provisions from $250.00 to $500.00

Violations remain classified as misdemeanors punishable by fine, up to 30 days in county jail, or both

Personal watercraft operators must still ensure all persons on board or being towed wear approved life jackets regardless of age

Effective date is July 1, 2026
