Requires all health insurance policies, HMOs, and self-insured plans in Mississippi to cover obesity and morbid obesity treatments, including bariatric surgery, gastric bypass, lap band surgery, and prescriptions, effective July 1, 2026

Coverage applies when a physician certifies the patient has a body mass index 30% or more above ideal body weight and treatment is medically necessary

Prohibits insurers from imposing higher deductibles or coinsurance for obesity treatment than for similar benefits, and requires provider reimbursement rates at or above Medicare levels

Mandates coverage for obesity screening examinations and tests in addition to treatment

Allows referral to non-participating providers when no in-network provider is available, with no additional cost to the patient beyond normal in-network rates
