Requires the Mississippi Department of Corrections to house nonviolent offenders within a 100-mile radius of their release residence if they have sentences of 10 years or less, or have 10 years or less remaining on their sentence

Applies to both state-run and private correctional facilities housing state inmates

Includes offenders incarcerated before the effective date, not just newly sentenced individuals

Mandates classification hearing officers to make housing location determinations for eligible nonviolent offenders within 40 days of commitment

Takes effect July 1, 2026
