Commends Bishop William Thomas (Bill) McAlilly, a Mississippi native, for his service to the United Methodist Church and the state, following his retirement on September 1, 2024

Bishop McAlilly earned his bachelor's degree from Millsaps College in 1978, a Master of Divinity from Emory University's Candler School of Theology in 1981, and an honorary Doctor of Divinity from Rust College in 2017

Elected to the episcopacy in 2012, he successfully merged two conferences to form the Tennessee-Western Kentucky Conference of the United Methodist Church, adopted on December 4, 2021

Served as District Superintendent of the Seashore District following Hurricane Katrina in 2006, working with Disaster Response and the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR)

Currently serving as Bishop in Residence at Millsaps College as of September 2025, after previously serving as Bishop in Residence at Vanderbilt Divinity School
