The Greenwood-Leflore Industrial Board was established following House Bill 963 on March 31, 1956, which authorized Leflore County and the City of Greenwood to jointly employ an industrial engineer for economic development purposes.

The partnership has recruited and expanded numerous manufacturers over 70 years, including Viking Range, Milwaukee Tools, Baldwin Piano, Heartland Catfish, and approximately 20 other prominent employers to the region.

The Greenwood-Leflore Industrial Board oversees a 2,200-acre industrial park at the intersection of Highway 82 West and Highway 49 South in Greenwood.

The organization expanded in 1980 with the creation of a 501(c)(6) nonprofit foundation, later renamed the Greenwood-Leflore-Carroll Economic Development Foundation in 1990 to include Carroll County, now governed by a 27-member board of directors.

In 2026, the Industrial Board and Foundation launched a master planning effort to guide future development of the industrial park.
