Erick Dampier, Jr., a 6-foot-10 sophomore center at Madison-Ridgeland Academy, was named MAIS Player of the Year and is currently ranked the No. 1 player in the country for the Class of 2028

During his sophomore season, Dampier averaged 15.6 points, 12.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 2.4 blocked shots, and shot 68% from the field, recording 26 double-doubles

Dampier represented Team USA at the FIBA U-16 AmeriCup in Juárez, Mexico in summer 2025, helping the team win gold while averaging 7.7 points and 6.7 rebounds per game

In the MAIS Overall Tournament championship game on February 24, 2026, Dampier scored 25 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, and blocked 8 shots in a 65-53 victory over Jackson Academy

Dampier comes from a basketball family—his father Erick Dampier, Sr. played 16 years in the NBA, his mother Yolanda received a basketball scholarship to Jackson State, and his grandfather Marvin Brown is in the Jackson State Sports Hall of Fame
