Edwin Jerome "Jerry" Wilburn, former Mississippi State Representative from Itawamba County, passed away on January 13, 2026, at age 85 after serving 20 years in the Mississippi Legislature

Sponsored legislation creating the North Mississippi Regional Center in Oxford, which has provided housing for hundreds of children and adults with physical and mental disabilities for over 50 years

Founded the Wilburn Family Foundation using his annual "13th check" from the state retirement system, providing shoes and clothing to needy children in Mantachie for 29 years, including 92 children in his final Christmas program

Served in the Mississippi National Guard and was inducted into both the Mantachie High School Athletic Hall of Fame and Itawamba Community College Hall of Fame for football

Survived by his wife of 61 years, Margaret Ann Silas, two daughters, three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren
