Mississippi House of Representatives condemns the arson attack on Beth Israel Congregation in Jackson that occurred on January 10, 2026, characterizing it as an antisemitic hate crime

Beth Israel Congregation, founded in 1860, is the oldest and only synagogue in Mississippi's capital city, and built the first synagogue in the state

The congregation experienced previous violence when Ku Klux Klan members bombed the temple on Old Canton Road in September 1967 and bombed Rabbi Perry Nussbaum's home two months later

The resolution calls on all Mississippians to reject antisemitism in all forms and affirms the House's policy to stand with the Jewish community
